Overview

Riyaz is a Partner in the Energy and Infrastructure practice group at Trilegal. Riyaz has substantial buy-side and sell-side experience in advising Indian and overseas clients across multiple jurisdictions (including the Indian sub-continent and the South Pacific region) and in a variety of sectors. With a particular emphasis on renewable energy, infrastructure PPPs, electric vehicles and urban mobility and roads, Riyaz has advised clients on high-value M&A and JV deals in these sectors. He also has significant experience in advising on regulatory and project development aspects, including drafting and negotiating EPC contracts, power purchase agreements, concession agreements, LNG storage and regasification agreements, operations and maintenance contracts, and joint development agreements.

Riyaz has advised on multiple “first-of-a-kind” transactions. He advised on the development of a 750-MW solar power project in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh on a PPP basis. This project was recognised in the prestigious Government of India’s Prime Minister’s Book of Innovation, 2017 and received the World Bank Group’s President Award for Innovation and Excellence for its innovative PPP transaction structure. He advised on the proposed development of India’s first pilot hyperloop system. He has also recently advised the Government of India on the large-scale procurement and deployment of electric buses in major cities in India.

  • Mitsui & Co, investment in a ReNew Power subsidiary developing a 400-MW ’round-the-clock’ wind-solar hybrid project (with a total installed capacity of 1300 MW) for sale of power to SECI
