Samsuddha Majumder is Partner, Trilegal, and part of the Tax practice group. Samsuddha advises clients on direct tax and indirect tax matters, specifically GST, Customs duty (including anti-dumping and safeguard duty matters), Central and State Excise, VAT and Service tax. He also provides assistance in the field of import and export controls and foreign trade laws, setting up and operating special economic zones and export-oriented units. He also assists clients in ensuring compliance with legal metrology laws. Samsuddha has in-depth experience in direct corporate taxation, including structuring of foreign direct and institutional investment, repatriation, and exit. He regularly advises on overseas loan transactions and the tax implications on infrastructure and energy projects, such as structuring of concession and EPC contracts, and onshore and offshore drilling contracts. Samsuddha has advised on the formation of incorporated and unincorporated joint ventures, business transfer and business restructuring agreements arising from mergers/demergers or asset sale agreements. Employment-related taxes, stock option schemes and schemes for voluntary retirement are his other areas of expertise. Samsuddha is closely connected with industry segments such as civil aviation, Defence, infrastructure and energy, manufacturing and heavy industries, retail, e-commerce and consumer products, and e-commerce.
