Trilegal advises AvidSys Group’s Franchise Acquisition in India’s First Rugby Premier League

Trilegal advised AvidSys Group on its successful acquisition of a franchise in the inaugural Rugby Premier League (RPL)—India’s first professional rugby league, organised by Rugby India in partnership with GMR Sports Venture Private Limited. AvidSys would be promoting the ‘Chennai Bulls’ as one of the six teams with international players from the top Rugby 7s nations.

The first season of RPL, the world’s first franchise-based Rugby 7s format, will be hosted in Mumbai from June 1 to 15, 2025.

Trilegal represented AvidSys Group in negotiating and finalising the franchise agreement and other contracts for players, coaches, and other key personnel.

The Chennai Bulls is the only foreign-owned franchise in the RPL, marking a significant international investment in Indian rugby. This transaction marks Trilegal’s capability in supporting cross-border sports ventures and complex franchise-based league structures in emerging markets.
